Sri Lanka defeated Afghanistan: won the second ODI by 155 runs, Aslanka missed a century, Hasaranga took 4 wickets; Unbeatable 2-0 lead in the series
Sri Lanka defeated Afghanistan by 155 runs in the second match of the 3 ODI series. On Sunday, Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat at Pallekele ground. The team scored 308 runs for 6 wickets in 50 overs. In reply, Afghanistan was all out for 155 runs in 33.5 overs.
Charith Asalanka missed his century. He played an unbeaten inning of 97 runs. Apart from them, Kusal Mendis, Sadira Samarawickrama and Janith Liyanage scored half-centuries. Whereas, in bowling, Wanindu Hasaranga took 4 wickets.
Sri Lanka has taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. The last match of the series will be played on 14th February in Pallekele itself.
Sri Lanka's bad start
The start of the match was bad for Sri Lanka. Pathum Nissanka, who came to open, was out after scoring 18 runs and Avishka Fernando was out after scoring 5 runs. From here Kusal Mendis and Sadira Samarawickrama took over the innings.
Century partnership between Mendis-Samarawickrama, also completed half-centuries
After 2 wickets fell for 36 runs, Kusal Mendis and Sadira Samarawickrama took over the innings. Together they made a partnership of 103 runs on 113 balls. Samarawickrama scored 52 runs and Mendis scored a half-century of 61 runs.
Liyanage supported Aslanka
Mendis was also out after the wicket of Samarawickrama. From here, Janith Liyanage supported Charith Asalanka. There was a century partnership of 111 runs between the two. Noor Ahmed dismissed Liyanage for 50 runs.
After this Asalanka and Wanindu Hasaranga made a partnership of 50 runs. Hasaranga was out after scoring 14 runs. At the same time, Aslanka remained unbeaten after scoring 97 runs.
3 wickets for Azmatullah
Azmatullah Omarzai of Afghanistan got the maximum 3 wickets. He took the wickets of Nissanka, Mendis and Hasaranga. Whereas, Fazalhaq Farooqui, Noor Ahmed and Qais Ahmed got 1-1 wicket.
Afghanistan started brilliantly, then the innings faltered
Afghanistan's innings started brilliantly. Rahmanullah Gurbaz was out after scoring 8 runs, but from here Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmat Shah made a partnership of 97 runs. Asitha Fernando broke this partnership and Zadran was out after scoring 53 runs. Rahmat Shah also got out after scoring 63 runs.
From here, Afghanistan's wickets kept falling. Hashmatullah Shahidi was out for 9 runs, Azmatullah Omarzai 3 runs, Gulbadin Naib 0 runs, Mohammad Nabi 1 run, Ikram Alikhil 4 runs, Qais Ahmed 1 run and Noor Ahmed 0 runs. Fazalhaq Farooqui remained unbeaten on 0 runs.
Hasranga took 4 wickets
Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga took 4 wickets. He took important wickets of Shah, Shahidi, Nabi and Naib. Whereas, Asitha Fernando and Dilshan Madushanka got 2-2 wickets. Whereas, Pramod Madushan got 1 success.
